Understanding Files and Folders
Files and folders are used to store and organize data on a computer.
What is a File?
A file is a container for storing data, such as documents, images, videos, or programs. Files have extensions that indicate their type:
- .txt: Text file
- .jpg: Image file
- .mp4: Video file
- .exe: Program file
What is a Folder?
A folder is used to organize files. It can contain files and other folders (called subfolders).
Navigating Files and Folders
- File Explorer: Use File Explorer to view and manage files and folders.
- Open File Explorer by pressing
Windows + E.
- Open File Explorer by pressing
- Path: The location of a file or folder is called its path (e.g.,
C:\Documents\MyFile.txt).
Organizing Files
- Create Folders: Group related files into folders.
- Rename Files: Use meaningful names to identify files easily.
- Delete Unnecessary Files: Remove files you no longer need.
