Good question..
You need it to be a part of IT community and appreciate it more – at least on the lower end. IT is the fastest growing industry in the world and specially in the US – check this US government data on labor
- Job security as IT is growing fast
- Flexible working options if you need to more to places
- Easy online jobs that you can do yourself from your couch
- Interesting and fun jobs
But what does that mean for you? Whatever profession you are in right now, IT will eat it slowly but surely. Take a look on your surrounding, sears a biggest retail is having a hard time due to online competition, Taxi once it was assumed decent and owning one worth million is having rival from ride share, all the forms you used to apply in paper for government are going electronic submissions.. the list can go on and on.
Looking at all these, you might figure out yours is safe for this or that reason. But it is just a matter of time before you realize you won’t be required in the industry you are in as time progresses.
One question here.. what does that have to do with me? Have you heard the saying “if you can’t fight them, join them”?
Not only joining is good but also it feels nice to be a part of the crowd. You will see some idea growing right in front of your eyes. Example? Lets say you want to create a application that saves money by comparing stores. This was just an idea before you start to work on it. As you progress, you will see accomplishments right there, make adjustments, apply fixes, test rules, verify features.. on every ounce of your breath you are giving life to your idea.. that would be helpful to you and to others..
Also, IT in most part will require you to have computer and often times internet connection. Both of these are relatively cheap these days – libraries offer both for free. And you can immerse in the diverse knowledge and work your way up. For this little price, you will be having a better pay.
Apart from these, knowing about IT is also fascinating. You will be punching some keys and hit send and your brother on the other side of the ocean will get email with in seconds. What is happening between clicking a send and receiving the mail is simply a magic. You would get a chance to work on these day in day out.
In general, there are almost tones and tones of benefits you can garnish by joining the IT world..
